Trexi Website - Header Design

I've just spent a little while trying to make a header for my Trexi site. I've tried to keep with the theme of the 'police tape' style design of my trexi it's self and came up with this:

It's by no means finished, but the basic idea is there. I was just wondering if anyone has any initial feedback before I get too far into the design. I realise it could be quite difficult to comment on the design without seeing how it will fit in with the rest of the site but I will hopefully be uploading that soon.

EDIT - Work in progress site now uploaded

I like the idea but is the blood splattered text really suitable (epecially when it says play in the header)? It's a hard one to decide as it's not a toy but at the same time kids do buy them as toys I would imagine.

I do like the police tape idea though. Maybe you could emphasis this a little more so theres not as much blood.

The blood splattered text was to fit in with the idea of a crime scene. Somehow I couldn't see a font such as helvetica really fitting in to the design.

I also think that the designs are so wacky and created for different reasons that it's hard to class them as toys. Some are more toyish I do admit.

As for giving the police tape more emphasis it was something I thought of just before I saved the file so I admit it was quite a quick addition, but a I said it's by no means finished yet.

It would be a nice touch to have a white outline of a Trexi instead of a more human shape.

Like it was said today as well, use the trexi and PI logos. It makes it look a lot more professional. Try tucking the PI logo into one of the corners at a relatively small size, and use the Trexi logo inventively.

Maybe put it inside the white silhouette?

True, I never thought of using a trexi outline instead of a human shape outline.

And I've not had chance to change the design to incorporate the trexi logo and pi logo yet it's something I'm hoping to do this weekend.

The only issue I have using them is there will be a lot of awkward negative space if I use them. I think if I made them too big then they would look out of place and take over the design.

It's definitely a thinker.

I don't really see your text as blood splattered text, it looks more like a blood splattered banner. The text is rather seperate and seems to me like it's abit lost in the whole design, theres no real cohesiveness with the text and the rest of the banner apart from the blood red colour of it.

Youve used font 'angry blue' am I right?

If so, look at some of the angry blue brushes that you can use to match your text, and that come along with the font; they match very well and will give your overall banner more consistancy.

Alongside this, I think you need to start working with textures and lighting alot more, just flat base colours make things look abit bland and don't really show off your skills as a designer.

Especially when looking at your background colour, then looking at the blood splats (which are too big for the particular brush, so they've pixelated and haven't really given you the proper effect you were going for). If your background had abit of texture to it.. it'd of given the banner an overall more grimey feel to it, which then would lead to incorporate the blood alot better and even given the blood a more comfortable fit with the banner.

Looking at the tape too, it lookes abit too in your face, more cartoon'y than the rest of the banner which kindve throws it off. Look to add abit of texture or lighting, maybe a small drop shadow to give the tape some real standout effectiveness. This will push it into the design alot better, instead of looking like it doesn't really belong.

Typography wise too, I think you need to look at the position of your text in-accordance to the position of other things on your banner, being quite a plain background makes the text look like it's swimming abit.

Don't be afraid to use fonts like arial black and helvetica, just because as standard they don't seem to fit the brief, with the combination of splatter, grunge effects and breakdown.. they will fit alot more into the topic and you would think.
